Spring 2025 | 7-weeks | Group | Service Design | Experience Design | Wayfinding
Project Overview:
Traditions at Scott is one of the largest dining halls at The Ohio State University, offering a variety of food options, but its confusing layout and lack of clear signage often leave students unsure of where to go or what’s being served. The goal of this project was to improve the wayfinding experience by creating a system that’s intuitive and engaging, helping students navigate the space with confidence and making their dining experience more enjoyable.
Inspiration:
We looked at local food halls like North Market and Little Grand Market. Each vendor in these spaces has its own aesthetic, but the overall space remains connected and intentional. We drew inspiration from how these spaces use color, signage, and branding to create distinct identities for each vendor while ensuring the overall experience feels clear and cohesive.
Design Solution:
Our design reimagines each food station at Traditions as distinct destinations within the dining hall. We introduced:
- Custom Overhead Signs: Clear, large signs with unique fonts for easy recognition.
- Distinct Color Schemes: Every station has a color palette to help differentiate it.
- Branded Floor Decals: These tie the design together and lead students through the space.
- Differentiated Countertops: Custom styles for each station that reinforce the individual themes.
These changes not only make the space easier to navigate but also create an engaging, cohesive environment that encourages exploration.
